How To Make Window Blinds Safer in homes and buildings where babies and young children live or visit.
Make it Safe is a campaign from the British Blind and Shutter Association (BBSA) to promote window blind safety in all homes, public buildings and other environments where babies and young children may be present.
Window blinds are an increasingly popular form of window dressing with virtually limitless designs, styles, finishes and operating methods. All blinds produced and sold after February 2014 must comply with specific child safety requirements (BS EN 13120).
Some existing blinds installed before February 2014 may have cords or chains that operate the blind and which could pose a serious hazard to babies and young children if they can gain access to the blind. Making existing blinds safer is quick, cheap and easy and we have free resources to show you how…
To reduce the risk from looped blind cords and chains in the home from children, follow the guidelines of the BBSA Make It Safe campaign. The Child Safety campaign encourages customers not only to consider safety options that can be added to a blind, but also provides further ideas on how to keep children safe around window blind fittings:
